It's difficult not to get too carried away when describing the soundtrack album "Morning of the Earth". A sublime collection of songs that has enticed and haunted a generation of surfers and non surfers alike and continues to be played on high repeat on most surf trips around the world today. Probably one of the best "surf music" albums ever made, with excellent musicianship, great production values, and a strong narrative thread with no spoken words in the movie itself. To paraphrase Albe Falzon "the songs are the story and the dialogue for the film". This album is a brilliant combination of sweet folk and pop music that takes the listener on a rolling tour of emotions that fills them with a warm sense of purpose and belonging.

The film's soundtrack was produced by G. Wayne Thomas and included music and songs by noted Australian music acts Taman Shud, John J Francis, Brian Cadd and G. Wayne Thomas himself and one completely unknown musician Peter Howe. The popularity of the film was such that the album became the first Australian Gold soundtrack album. The music was a perfect backdrop for the great surfing action on the screen including Baddy Treloar ripping Angourie Point on a surfboard he had just hand shaped in his backyard, Michael Peterson, Nat Young, Terry Fitzgerald, Mark Warrren and Dick Van Strallen the famous surfboard shaper at Kirra. The excellent soundtrack has helped to make "Morning of the Earth" one of the most popular surf movies of all time.

The film "Morning of the Earth" captured the essence of early 1970's surfing and lifestyle. Albe Falzon's images of Michael Peterson (MP) riding a very short surfboard (approximately 5'9") at Kirra defined a cultural and technical transition in surfing that occurred in the late 60's early 70's. This important transitional period has become known as "The Short Board Revolution". The film caught this important change in surfing style from the fluid, flowing turns of the 1960's to the more "radical" style of MP's quick vertical "re entries", rail edge "cutbacks" and long "tube rides". This new "radical" surfing style was the precursor of the modern professional style surfing initially dominated by Australian surfers.

Lyrics
Morning of the Earth
The forces of the universe
And the elements of space
Conjured up your being
You're size, your time, you're shape
You were created
With all the beauty they could call
And earth, you surely are
The measure of them all
(Hallelujah, hallelujah)
You're rocks all turned to gold (Hallelujah)
And you're tiny stones to jewels
And when you're swirling (Hallelujah)
It's that clear you stood so pure
And placed so carefully (Hallelujah)
Each and everything that belonged
Earth you were magnificent (Hallelujah)
Through the pain of being born
(Hallelujah, hallelujah)
It was the morning of the earth (Hallelujah)
It was the morning of the earth (Hallelujah)
(Hallelujah, hallelujah)
It was the morning of the earth
From the tallest mountain
To the smallest drop of rain
Each and everything created
Was of the new world
It was the morning of the earth (Hallelujah)
It was the morning of the earth (Hallelujah)
It was the morning of the earth (Hallelujah)
It was the morning of the earth (Hallelujah)

I'll Be Alright
Terry Hannagan
Sometimes I get worried
Thinking about what each new day will bring
All the world is hassled hurt or hurried
There's never time to ease the painful things
Never time to think on where you're going or where you've been
You can tell them I'm going home
Or that I'm working late at night
No point writing letters
Or using the telephone
Tell them anything that you might
Be sure and tell them I'll be alright
City streets on grey mean mornings
Make a young man want to cry for help
Who can he trust to give out warnings like that
When he's nine points sure
He just can't help himself
Its got to come from the inside not from somebody else
You can tell them I'm living in the country
Or that I've given up the fight
No point in saying how well you knew me before
No point in giving reasons of last night
Be sure and tell them I'll be alright
And when my love comes whispering softly
With all the sweetness she can bring
That is when I'm real
And mostly that's the time
I feel no need to give out anything
That is when I know just what to sing
You can tell them I'm living in the islands
Somewhere where the day is always bright
No need to visit England, Germany or Spain
Wont find me anywhere that things are tight
Just be sure and tell them I'll be alright
I'm going back
I'll be alright
Going home
And I'll be alright

First Things First
Lindsay Bjerre & Tim Gaze
First things first I find a place a nice green piece ground
Sit right down and think about the other side of town
Your minds alive with crawling things
That go on inside your brain
To keep you from going insane
Baby aren't you glad that you're living around here
Ain't you glad that you're free
Its so good to know that you got a friend
That will help you out till the very end of time
Baby ain't you glad that your living around here
Ain't you glad that you're free
Its so good to know that you got a friend
That will help you out till the very end of time

Sure Feels Good
Brian Cadd
Don't walk by me mister what's your name
Don't tell me about freedom that's my game
If you don't fall into line then don't make fame
But it sure feels good
Baby it sure feels good... just the same
Come back here and listen what you say
What I got to tell you make your day
You don't convince my heads not on that way
You're the man of the year and you got no hair
But you think you know it all
Life ain't great and I'm always late
But I got nowhere to fall
And it sure feels good
Ah just the same
Baby it sure feels good.....
Give me sometime in the telephone line
And I'll tell you what I should do
There you go with your medicine show
But you know its already new
Don't tell me you make it up
Cause your make up sees things through
Your the man of the year and you got no hair
But you think you'll know it all
Life ain't great and I'm always late
But I got nowhere to fall
And it sure feels good
Ah just the same
Baby it sure fells good
Don't walk by me mister
What's your name
Don't tell me about freedom that's my game
If you don't fall into line you wont make fame
Your the man of the year and you got no hair
But you think you know it all
Life ain't great and I'm always late
But I got nowhere to fall
And it sure feels good
Ah just the same
It sure feels good...
That's my game
Baby it sure feels good, just the same
Tell me it feels good, feels good
Tell me it feels good......

Open Up Your Heart
G.Wayne Thomas
There's no formula for happiness, that's guaranteed to work
It all depends on how you treat your friends
And how much you've been hurt
But it's a start, when you open up your heart
And try not to hide, what you feel inside
Just open up your heart
There's no dreamer who's ever dreamed, and seen it all come true
Takes a lot of time and breaks a lot of hearts, to see an idea through
And love's just a simple word, it's truth is easily lost
And sorry is said so easily, nobody counts the cost
But it's a start, when you open up your heart
Give you love to others, they become your brother
You open up your heart, come on, make a start
Try not to hide, what you feel inside
Just open up your heart
But it's a start, you open up your heart
Give your love to others, they become your brother
You open up your heart, come on, make a start
Try not to hide, what you feel inside
Just open up your heart
There's no formula for happiness that's guaranteed to work
And no lovers ever been in love, and not been hurt
No dreamer's ever dreamed, and seen it all come true
In the end you find the things that count, a look to me and you
But it's a start, you open up your heart
Give your love to others, they become your brother
You open up your heart, come on, make a start
Try not to hide, what you feel inside
Just open up your heart, look for another love
Try not to hide, what you feel inside

Simple Ben
John J. Francis
Walking' on a dusty road in the countryside of ease
I heard a song drift in' on the gently blow in' breeze
Sunshine through the Autumn, sweet snow to the Spring
Corn by the water of an old mill stream, and you give me all,
you give me all
A barrow pushed by a little man came roll in' from the west
He sang a song as he stepped along until we drew abreast
Well hello there my friend, I see you're on the road here just like me
Why don't we stop and rest a while and I'll boil a pot of tea
Just give me sunshine through the Autumn, sweet snow to the Spring
Corn by the water of an old mill stream, and you give me all,
you give me all
He said his name was Simple Ben but not what I'd believe
Christened by the way he thought and not the way he lived
I've seen the best and worst that we have here on our earth
And finally decided on the things that I get worth
Just give me sunshine through the Autumn, sweet snow to the Spring
Corn by the water of an old mill stream, and you give me all,
you give me all
I asked if he had seen the great jets fly across the sky
He said he'd seen the smallest bird learn in' how to fly
Have you seen the bridges stretched across the bays
I've seen the smallest fish alive dying' in the haze
Have you seen the massive building's reached towards the sun
I've seen the fields of barrenness from the work that man has done
What about the dams and weirs that feed the countryside
I've seen the brownness of the grass when the dams and weirs run -
Just give me sunshine through the Autumn, sweet snow to the Spring
Corn by the water of an old mill stream, and you give me all,
you give me all
What about the fertile lands where no thin' once would grow
I've seen the lands to the north and south under tons of ice and snow
Have you seen the jungles so thick that a man can't go
I've seen a farmer plough a field with no thin' but a hoe
You must admit that the motor was a boom to all mankind
The air is sweet ahead than a hundred miles behind
Just give me sunshine through the Autumn, sweet snow to the Spring
Corn by the water of an old mill stream, and you give me all,
you give me all
What about the time we saved to go from place to place
I've seen my life go by so fast I scarce recall a face
You must have learned a lot by now about your fellow man
I've seen the waves that break upon the beaches made of sand
What about the beauty of great art that men have done
I've seen the shapes of mountains up against the morning' sun
You give me sunshine through the Autumn, sweet snow to the Spring
Corn by the water of an old mill stream, and you give me all,
you give me all

Making It On Your Own
Brian Cadd
Had a girl thought she was my friend
Guess I should've have
She wouldn't be there in the end
Asked a guy I met in a bar
If he thought I was going to die
He said to me if I talked to him
He's going to teach me how to fly
Making it on your own
Making it on your own
Away from the telephone
Making it on your own
I bought myself a TV set
To see what I could see
Turned it on to a man called Sam
I wonder who he could be
He told me about child welfare and housing scheme plan B
But I thought about the parts of the world
Where a hundred million kids aren't free
Making it on your own
Making it on your own
Away from the telephone
Making it on your own
I met a man who's come from those
Who said I've seen the light
Saviour come in the cool guise
Met a man to lose
Again, again and again
Met a man to find a way
He just can't bear to see
The world again to fly away
A man who's on his own
Never has the time to be free
Had a girl thought she was my friend
Guess I should've have
She wouldn't be there in the end
Asked a guy I met in a bar
If he thought I was going to die
He said to me if I talked to him
He's going to teach me how to fly
Making it on your own
Making it on your own
Away from the telephone
Making it on your own
Making it on your own
Making it on your own
Away from the telephone
Making it on your own

Day Comes
G. Wayne Thomas
Day comes with its golden eye
Warms me as I stumble to your shore
And I stop and I wonder why
So many things about you I enjoy
Lover day by any name
I know you will remain
Ever changing but always the same
And you never let me down
You keep on coming around
Lover there's nothing about you I would change
Small towns all around
You know you are the measure of our lives
The country cities, so very pretty
Imagine the sun through day and bright
Lover, day by any name
I know you will remain
Ever changing but always the same
And you'll never let me down
You keep on coming around
Lover, there's nothing about you I would change
Twilight comes slowly
As you turn your head and gently conform
And not while you're still here-ere-ere
You'll keep on shining on to warm us all
Keep on shining on to warm us all
Lover, day by any name
I know you will remain
Ever changing but always the same
Lover, there is nothing I would change
Lover, there is nothing about you I would change
Lover, there's nothing about you I would change

Sea The Swells
Taman Shud
See the swells out on the ocean
All the moving in a rhythm
If I didn't have to be here
I would surely be with them
I don't care, I don't care
Walk around and breath the air
Drink fresh water from the fountain
Watch the sunrise from a mountain
I don't care
I don't care
I don't care
I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
Walk around and breath the air
Drink fresh water from the fountain
Watch the sunrise from a mountain

I'm Alive
Peter Howe
Look around at the day
I'm alive on being around
Where the waves come smiling
With curls all flying
Yeah we spend a lot of time
Inside the world of delightful rain
And the whirling wind blows its song
Around the bay
And the whirling wind knows my name

Come With Me
Brian Cadd
Morning sun on a green grass sea
Magic grass in the wind blow
Softly talking by last nights fireside
See the water come with me
Take my hand and join me and be free
Sun on your face, your head held high
Laughing eyes teach me to fly
Child of time don't care to know the reason why
See my want and come with me
Take my hand and join me and be free
Take a walk feel the spray on your face
See my soul, come with me
Take my hand and join me and be free
Take my hand and join me and be free
